Composite Takes (Comping/Take Folders)
Composite Takes (Comping/Take Folders)
Not sure if its been requested before or if anyone knows of any workarounds, but I would definitely love to see Ableton incorporate "comping" for audio recording similar to how Logic Pro 9's comping works (haven't tried Logic X yet). When I record my vocals, I do fast paced hip hop and it's really easy to maneuver through Logic's comping design for my style.
I know Ableton allows you to loop record and will store all your takes as a long file which you can then edit accordingly. Or you can record each take individually and move it down to an empty track, then edit and make a composite take manually. But the process is time consuming and rather frustrating when working with fast paced hip hop vocals because things don't align as easily.
I would love to just be able to set a 4 bar loop and press record and have each 4 bar take be saved on a sublane below the main track to be edited and chosen from later. This way you just loop record the same 4 bar loop 3 times in row and pick the best phrasing of those takes (down to the syllable). It's a lot quicker for me. For now, I suppose using the 2 DAWS works.
Thanks for being so open to suggestions!

Re: Composite Takes (Comping/Take Folders)
I also really miss that s function... Without that, we still need another Daw for professional recording.
It should be coupled with a more powerful grouping tracks (a grouping selection only for comps and editing). Selecting tracks is time consuming un ableton.

+1
I have Logic only for recording Take Folders. You'll save me a lot of time and the Live will be ultimate song writing tool.

Re: Composite Takes (Comping/Take Folders)
+1 This is the only reason I use another DAW as well.
Re: Composite Takes (Comping/Take Folders)
+1 I also use Logic purely for take folders
Re: Composite Takes (Comping/Take Folders)
+1. It’s almost 2020 and Live still lacks this.
Re: Composite Takes (Comping/Take Folders)
i hope will see that feature before Live 20

Seriously, why don't you just integrate this? Even Garageband can do it.
Why do I need to use another DAW for such a basic feature?
Please integrate it and I will upgrade to Live 10.

Not having comp folders feels like one of ableton's biggest drawbacks. Would love to see it implemented.

Re: Composite Takes (Comping/Take Folders)
- Double-click on the looped clip. Turn on looping in detail view if it's not already on.
- Go back to arranger view and split the clip appropriately.
- Double-click on whichever split you want to audition takes forand detail view will gain focus.
- Hit the up and down arrows and watch the different takes come into view in the split clip in arranger.
Live doesn't constrain the movement within the recorded file so you need to be a bit careful moving between takes.
You can loop/play the entire original clip in arranger if you want to audition in context and the loop markers in the individual clips will remain the same.
If you want an overview of the entire file (this used to be the default), then just magnify it in detail view.
Edit: If the loop braces don't gain focus, click on the center
