Replacement for Behringer BCR2000

Post by Szwagier » Tue Jul 09, 2019 8:40 am

I'm looking for a replacement for my Behringer BCR2000 since it refuses to work in Win 10. What gear does anyone else have? I really want something with a lot of rotary encoders. All suggestions welcome, but the cheaper the better! :D

Hmmm. I saw an old thread on here where someone had exactly the same problem I do. Windows says "USB device not recognised" and when I try to install the Behringer driver it comes up with a timeout error. I've tried it with compatibility modes and as administrator and no dice. I'd sort of given up on it. The firmware is as it should be (v 1.10). I've tried it in different USB ports and I think the cable's OK because it's brand new.

Any suggestions would be welcome, though! :-)

My BCR works with Win10
that's no great help but it means that it is possible you may find a solution.

I wish there was a solid replacement for the BCR. The ones suggested really don't match up.
Comparing the MIDI fighter twister's 16 encoders to the BCR shows the difference...

The BCR has 32 rotary encoders and 24 "track" buttons including the clickable top row. + 12 more if we map the ones down the side ( 32 encoders and 36 buttons). It's all laid out like an 8 channel mixer, so it can be used to recall song mixes on stage with the encoder rings showing the modulating track parameters.
And importantly for working in a dark club there's LEDs on everything, every button and dial.

For connectivity there's full sized midi sockets (in out thru), plus 2 analog pedal inputs and a large size USB, with power through an IEC power connector (no wall wart power).

All that for what was £100 when I got mine. There's not really anything competing with that. I appreciate that most companies are boutique operations but there's no comparison.

I often take the opportunity to remind Behringer to make a "tribute" to this vintage classic.

This looks interesting.

A nice project but those are potentiometers not encoders, so there's no recall or value display available on them.
There are a lot of nice competetive potentiometer products out there at a nice cheap price, eg the Novation Lauchcontrol is good value and add 8 sliders and a bunch of buttons.

An encoder product is more like the previously mentioned Twister, or this

but neither are physically arranged as I'd prefer them. I enjoy the two rows of "mute and arm" buttons on the BCR

No, really. I want something with lots of rotary encoders. I play with effects a *lot* and the BCR was perfect for that. I haven't got nearly a lifetime's use out of it yet, but what can I do?

i would seek and purge all traces of the BCR2000 from your device manager and registry and try again.

you could also set up a fresh install of Windows 10 and try the BCR2000 with that. that way you will know if it is a fatal problem (which based on others' experience it isn't), or something messed up with your Windows 10 installation...

Thanks very much. Those are both good ideas. Not sure when I'll have time for a fresh install of Win 10 as in my day job I use the laptop pretty much all the time, but it's definitely worth pondering. You've given me a bit of hope! :D
