For those considering an upgrade in cpu, the results:

40 to 50 percent improvement. i.e. sets that hovered around 80% now hover around 40 to 45%.

I turned off speed step and set bios setting to power user mode. Same in W10. cpu runs at a steady 4.3GHZ and temps with air cooler hover around 36c. Haven't yet decided to OC or not. (Same settings as with my i7 3770K)

Using my old chassis and ps the investment was around $700.

Was it worth it? For me yes as I no longer have to bounce to audio on some of my sets now. I primarily work with plugins instead of samples so cpu usage is more demanding.

very helpful as i am using my 3770k and have no idea with comparing it with newer cpus as of 2019.BTW,did you kept just the chassis and psu?how did you manage to pull that of with only $700 when ram,ssd and gpu would cost you that much alone?just curious.

I would guess so.With that money tho now that 3600 is looking like a real champ performance/price wise, that $700 might get me 3600/mobo and 32 gig ram.Hopefully intel do price cuts on their processors to stay competitive.

Build quality is very importend for me, so I bought a machine from a company specialized in them.

I have an i7-7700, 16GB ram and an M2SSD and an HDD for storage. It is build in a 19" housing, 4HE high and is very quiet.

The company who build is is Soundsuplies from the Netherlands, but in almost every country or region is a specialized builder. My machine costed me around 1500 euro's two years ago.
