hi guys,
as the title states, I am new to Ableton software.
I’m halfway the free trial period, and of course I’m wondering which version to buy? do I start with intro or standard, to then later upgrade? or do I go straight fot the suite version?
I’ve also bought the Push 2, which I’m very excited about, cause so far my only expercience has been with Korg Electribe EA-1 and ER-1.

therefore any tips are welcome! 🤓

If money’s no object, get suite now. Otherwise I’d wait for a sale. Whether to go standard or advanced depends on your feature needs. If you have no other synths/vst instruments then I say go with suite and just play in the Ableton sandbox until you get your feet - it might be all you ever need.

Also, are you sure you don’t have a Live Intro license by virtue of some other product you own? It came free with my focusrite interface for example...

ow, I didn't know that was a possibility? where can I check that (intro license), at the risk of sounding a bit ignorant...

money is always an object... but I'd rather go fo the Suite version... I just thought that, as a beginner, it might be too advanced?

Google is your friend. If you bought your Push new I believe it comes with Intro. If not, I’d register any hardware you own with the manufacturer’s website and look at your account with them to see. If you do have intro, make sure you buy an upgrade license from that to standard or suite, will save a few bucks over buying without an upgrade.

As far as suite being too advanced, is that your experience based on the demo trial? Look up the standard vs suite comparison - if there’s nothing you think you’ll miss, go standard. But I bet if you like Live you’ll be looking to upgrade soon and that will cost more than if you’d just gone Suite immediately.

It will make your live easier instead! No more thinking about a lot of things, no workarounds, but straight to what you want!

thanks guys,

I'll know by tomorrow whether I have intro or not with Push 2 purchase;

and indeed, I wouldn't want to purchase Standard... to then upgrade to Suite in like a couple of weeks time, cause that would cost me money;
I want to !!!make!!! money. :D

no, seriously, I hope I'll get the hang of it... although I've gotten used to "trial by error" in everything I take on... but I think it'll be fun to play with, and discover a hidden talent... maybe?

greets

You already purchased Push2 - a great step to get ahead, and what fun to play with!!!! I surely would buy Suite, that's what I have done after purchasing Push2. Mine came with intro too, and it took me a short time to upgrade to Suite to get advantage of all the great features.

Suite has many nice things: Sampler, Wavetable, External instrument (for your Korg's!) and so on........

And yes, beside reading the manual - trail and error is the best way to learn. The first few weeks will be a tough and steep ride, but after that things will come faster and faster.

What I did, was write a song. What do I want to happen? Find it in the manual or YT and do it, learn it, eat it, sleep it, dream it........ :D

Good luck, and much fun shopping!

I'd say Standard at least. Especially if you already have alot of plugins.

Suite does have some nice additions but not 100% necessary. That said if you ever find a deal, work your way up to Suite.

I’d say to get Suite if the price isn’t a problem.

The different Live versions - Intro, Standard, Suite don’t get more and more “advanced” in the sense that each version makes things more complicated, they all work the same way. Each version adds more “stuff” and that stuff can make things simpler to do rather than harder. For example, Max For Live can do things that would be very complicated or even impossible to do without Max and as well as the Max plugins provided with Live there’s a huge number of free or inexpensive third party ones. For me M4L was a big reason I bought Suite. I sometimes find the extra instruments and effects useful as well.

I doubt most people use everything that comes with a DAW, but I’m pretty sure that everything gets used by somebody. Suite gets you “everything” and opens up the most possibilities.

For 15 yrs I use a BeyerDynamic DT-770-pro. A fine headphone, and all the parts are servicable and changeable.

Not cheap, but good!!!
