Post by Léonard Titus-Bouyer » Sun Aug 11, 2019 5:18 pm

Hello everyone,

I have recorded my voice for a phonk music like freddie dredd and other.
However I don't know how to mix the vocals.

I want to make a vocal like this :

A couple of ideas -

Experiment with saturation and distortion plugins and eq after the saturation plugin- the ones in Live’s guitar effects for example.

Also try a bit-crusher such as Redux, and again eq it.
Live 10 Suite, 2020 27" iMac, 3.6 GHz i9, MacOS Catalina, RME UFX, assorted synths, guitars and stuff.

Yeah, try some saturation and distortion plus try some heavy eq filtering like the 'Cheesy Speaker' preset on EQ eight. I find that always helps 8)

36 mafia probably just recorded the vocal with old cheap 90s equipment like a porta studio.

Use a Sampler or Simpler and use a tape effect and add noise.

You can probably buy a cassette recorder pretty cheaply nowadays.

A mic like a Shure sm57 will probably help get the midrangey vocal right too.

A condenser is probably to full range sounding for what you want.

Drake actually sampled this on the song Nonstop.

For chopped and screwed vocals, Simpler and play with Warp modes. Again a dynamic mic will probably work better.

Use a CB radio mic to record your vocals, or an old telephone handset.

Play your vocals back through a really small speaker, from a transistor radio etc. and re-record.
