Resetting follow actions during a recording session

Post by re:dream » Sun Aug 25, 2019 6:07 pm

I am stuck with a problem that is kind of hard to explain.

(1) I have a few rhythm tracks with clips set up with follow actions to create a 32 bar loop for me to jam over.

(2) I have a piano on another track, armed to record.

(3) I have a 2 bar count-in

First time round it works fine. I hit record, there is two bars of metronome ticking, and everything starts on time.

The problem occurs when I stop recording after a number of bars and want to start again.

(1) Instead of resetting to the beginning, the follow action sequence stops in the middle of things. So if I hit record again, on a new clip, the rhythm section starts up again from where I left off, instead of the beginning

(2) If I hit stop all clips, everything resets - but then if I hit record, the rhythm section doesn't play at all.

(3) I can trigger the first scene to start the rhythm tracks from the beginning.. but then there is no count in

So what I have to do is:
- Hit stop all clips.
- Trigger the scene
- Hit the space bar repeatedly, to make the follow actions cycle all the way to the beginning of the sequence
- THEN hit record.

Surely there is a better way of doing things?

If your follow action sequence is non random, then record it into another track, in just one clip.

Or put a new scene before the first scene, with a 2 bar-long empty clip set with follow action "next". This will be your "count-down scene";

If I turn it into one long clip, I still have the problem that it does not reset to the beginning when I press stop and start again

And if I create a blank 2 bar starter clip, I will have silence every 34 bars...
