Keeping the video window active when Live is not in front

Post by gtripi » Wed Jun 08, 2016 7:19 pm

Pretty basic request since video was introduced to Live. Would so much more helpful if the video window did not disappear when Live was not the foreground application. I use it for film composing, and I often let the picture run while I audition sounds and instruments in other places. DP, Logic, ProTools, and just about every other DAW keep the window up (or at least have an option for it). Any thoughts on a work-around for keeping it open in Live?
Thanks!

I am using the video window to play background videos during a live show. But occasionally I need to switch to the mixer app or other applications. Obviously, it's not cool if the video disappears while i am doing that.

Well, I posted this topic almost a year ago and all it has gotten is alot of +1s. This isn't even the first thread that I've made about this topic. It's been going for years. I don't really think that Ableton cares about the video abilities of Live. It's too bad though. Live is a great film scoring tool, and I use it all the time. If the video implementation was a little better, the whole usefulness of Live in professional film/tv work would go up significantly.

Does anyone know if the video window has been changed for Live 10? Always open options would be nice to finally get. Also using the QuickTime engine in the OS instead of Live’s CPU would be better. Timecode support is just dreaming out loud.

How about running video in one of the Max For Live devices that can send video to another application, then display that full screen? Or alternatively send the audio stream to another machine with Max that uses this fir the video?

The video support in Live is limited. MFL seems to offer some unique possibilities. I have yet to investigate in detail, but there have been a few tools emerging the last years that looks promising, including free projects so would seem to be something to check out.

Just right click on the video clip itself that's on the timeline and click on "Video Window"

You can also just press command+option+V

That's not the point. As the titles states, the point is when Ableton is not active to have the video window (or any other window) visible. :|
