I imagine creating a MIDI clip. I had this not work the other day as I believe I selected an area on a MIDI track but this didn’t automatically select the track. Or some such. It surprised me, but unfortunately I can’t remember what I did to alleviate the problem. Or if it was actually a problem.

So it's not the keyboard because i tried different keyboards i'm running ableton live 10 and i'm trying to use it in arrangement view, what i mean by it doesn't work meaning nothing happens but if i go into the create menu and manually select it, it puts the midi clip in.

Is it with a clean project? If you're creating a project from a template, maybe corruption? Just guessing.

CTRL+SHIFT+M works to insert a clip in SESSION mode for the selected clip slot.

In Arrangement Mode you first need to select a range then press CTRL + SHIFT + M to insert a midi clip in the selected range (will not insert unless a range is selected). You can select a range using just the keyboard using arrows to move the cursor and hold Shift and move cursor to select a range.

I have to ask because I've made this mistake, so please don't be offended. Are you sure you're doing this on a MIDI track?

Hmm. Really stumped if it’s a permanent condition.

I have the same problem in Ableton Live 9.7.7 since a few days ago. Any solutions yet?

Yoo, I found the problem and solution: This AMD Adrenaline Update (for AMD graphics cards) has some new gaming features which can be activated via shortcut and it shares some of them with ableton. Seems like this AMD stuff hijacks the input and ableton doesn't recognize it anymore.

Disabling all the shortcuts in the AMD software fixed the problem
