Hi Freakydinde,

"this product is an absolute pain, it won’t speed up your workflow in any way, it is just a mess.. the software is not able to discover external VST parameters by himself, you’ll have first have to map them to live"

Please direct your frustration at Ableton themselves for this is a decision made by them to not allow for automatic configuration of VST parameters. This is totally out of our control.

support@ableton.com would be the best way to contact them.

"then you’ll have to run its own controls script with the software open to get your template working, no way to save a configuration template usable without the software open"

Once you have configured / exposed the parameters for Live & PrEditor to be able to see them then you should save your configuration within the device using the save icon at the top right of the device. You can then configure your custom mappings using PrEditor anyway you wish and save them to your Live installation. This then means that your mapping will be recalled when you next open Live without the need for PrEditor to be running.

it may be because of ableton but the fact is the software is not able to map external VST by himself, you first have to MANUALLY map all vst preset, then click scan, then tweak, so it does not speed the process of mapping.

the only save icon i see is top left and just store fxp preset or fxb bank without any configuration recall, where is this explained in the manual ?

i may not be the smartest user of your base, but the average dumb user must notice this software is a pain.

such a pain that i'll never use it, and because there is no demo, no video showing the external vst process, and no refund policy, i just loose 70 €.

For VST's right click on the device header and then use the Save as Default Configuration Option.

As stated before the utility provides features that cannot be achieved using Ableton Live on its own, configuring a VST manually is a feature of Live itself.

strange that ableton do not consider adding space and bank name to VST mapping, the 128 parameters limit is also a bit low to map a synth.

so yes your software fill this gap.

i didn't see any mark of PrEditor in the default config file (Default.appc), the json is the same as before PrEditor tweak, i guess where are stored the custom information ?

You'll find all of the stored setting within the Isotonik Folder in your Documents...

Ableton live should deliver better vst parameter support like default templates for all „big“ vsts with preview function - like NKS.
Second ableton should offer an universal hardwarecontroller for controlling vst parameters/synths/... (push 2 is more focused on live instruments).

Hey there! I create and remix music in the genres dance/pop and electronic/techno.
PC & Mac. Live 11, push2, NI S61 and tons of softsynths...

there is no default template with NKS, the mapping are stored on presets, it is really crap, custom assignment are really better than with ableton (group titles, param renaming..) but if you set custom assignment you cannot use any NKS presets anymore, for VSTI using fxp presets format you can still use them, but with NI VSTI you can't, default presets format are NKS.

then the NKS mapping process could be easy but is made difficult because you can't re order banks from the interface, you have to edit files by hand and they are not easy to read.
