Focusrite 18i20 3rd gen - Not all inputs show up
Focusrite 18i20 3rd gen - Not all inputs show up
Hello,
Would anybody know the solution how to setup Focusrite 18i20 in Ableton Live 10 to see all the inputs and not just the stereo 1/2 channels? I believe the drivers are installed correctly (re-installed it multiple times). All of my (8) microphones are generating signals and I can record correctly in Ableton but only on two channels. I did tons of research but I cannot find the solution anywhere. Also contacted Focusrite support but they did not get back to me yet. I saw some posts where people recommend to use the ASIO driver but this crashes my laptop and Focusrite is not recommending it either. I'm using the generic MME driver with Win 10.
Any help is appreciated
Thanks,
Laszlo

Did you install the "Focusrite Control" software on your computer, and add the inputs there?

Yes I did and I can see the signals from the mics.

Did you configure the outputs in Live's Options/Preferences/Input Config page?

Yes, I did. I followed the direction from Focusrite. I wish I could post a picture of my setup but yes, I looked at inputs/outputs on the configuration page. I have only one row, showig "1 and 2" inputs.

If you switch the audio driver from MME to ASIO, are the extra inputs still not available?

Unfortunately, I cannot see that. Anytime I switch, I receive the "blue screen of death" on my DELL XPS laptop. I tried to use the latest ASIO4ALL driver from their website but I had to remove it.
Re: Focusrite 18i20 3rd gen - Not all inputs show up
Is your Windows 10 up to date? Have you updated all of the drivers on your laptop, not only the Windows drivers, but also the drivers from DELL?
You really need to figure out the problem of why you can't run the ASIO drivers. I just checked on my desktop with my 2nd Gen Scarlett 18i8. When I switch to the MME drivers, I can only access two inputs. When I switch to ASIO, I get access to all of the inputs. Your problem is the MME drivers. You should be using the ASIO drivers anyway.

Re: Focusrite 18i20 3rd gen - Not all inputs show up
Thank you for the help, finally I figured it out. Since I'm a "newbie" to this, I have missed a couple of things:
1. You don't need to install a new ASIO4ALL driver. It comes with 3rd generation of Focusrite. (I uninstalled it. This was the one that crashed my computer.)
2. After if I select ASIO driver in setup, I have the option to pick ASIO Focusrite USB. Suddenly, everything falls into place. Now I can select multiple inputs.
Thanks again for help. Now I'm up to the next challenge: how to record and edit drums.
