Anyone try big Sur yet? Live won't open for me.
Anyone try big Sur yet? Live won't open for me.
Yeah first beta and all, but I tried it, and launching Live crashes right away for me. Logic pro 3rd party plugins ver unstable too. I guess it is too much to ask for carrying over the stability of the prior OS and simply improving it. they have to reinvent the wheel each time to march on. Oh well . .

Dude, I'm pretty sure you're not obliged to jump on the boat right now... and this boat's gonna be a very undesirable one for quite some time I think.

Jeez, I’m still too scared to upgrade to Catalina...

There is a definite issue with Big Sur Beta 4, just grey screens, no content.

Is there really anything you need in Big Sur? I’m still on Mojave with zero reason to upgrade. I only upgraded to that to test Luna.

There’s always issues with betas. Which is why, unless you’re a developer who needs to check if your software needs to change, it’s generally a bad idea to try and use a beta for actual work or in the expectation things will go smoothly. The App Guy wrote: ↑Fri Aug 07, 2020 10:55 pmThere is a definite issue with Big Sur Beta 4, just grey screens, no content.
It’s been my practice for many years to wait until a new OS version has settled down and any initial fixes have been released before going anywhere near it. I prefer to let other people find the problems
This doesn’t just apply to Apple, there have been several Windows and MS Office versions which were a mess until service pack 1 was released. The “law of large numbers” kicks in at release and the increased user base nearly always finds problems and bugs that were missed at the testing stages.

Re: Anyone try big Sur yet? Live won't open for me.
I’ve got an order in for a ‘build to order’ 27” 2020 iMac, which in theory should be delivered by the 20th. My MBP is starting to show its age and I’ve been speccing out a replacement for a while. So when Apple launched the new, slightly improved, iMac at the same price as the 2019 model I thought I’d get an order in now in the hope I get the iMac before Big Sur is released. Unusually for me I managed to order straight after the new version was released instead of a week before a new version comes out.jonljacobi wrote: ↑Sat Aug 08, 2020 4:26 pmIs there really anything you need in Big Sur? So Ableton hasn't released that they've support Big Sur yet... all that means is, Rosetta2 is trying to covert the application using default methods, but they've 'supposedly' made it easy for developers to use their transition software to make it work more smoothly.
So right now it'll just be broken pieces all over until the developers go in and translate all the missing elements.
I was on Mojave since it came out, and just upgraded to Catalina- and it still had problems. I can see Big Sur being a thorn for at least a year given all the language changes system wide.
