Push 1 - Step Automation - Where? How?

I'm sure this has been posted before but all I can find is Push 2 help...

I've followed all video tutorials and googled but to no avail so apologies if this is a duplicate post

Following the video 'Ableton Push 1 Tutorial Part 9: Step Automation': when trying to create automation on a step (whether it's an instrument or a drum rack or whatever) the 'Notes' and 'Automation' options at the bottom left of the screen do not appear, so I can't create any automation that isn't the standard 'Nudge, Length, Fine, Velocity'

Any pointers, please?

What if the screen is in Device mode?

Hi guys,
exactly the same problem for me: even being on 'Device' mode - if I hold a note I don't access to 'Automation', instead by doing that I can change the device macro controls (cutoff, reverb, attack, etc...)

any help is appreciated,
