2nd run of Live9 increases latency x4, requires reboot

Post by rnb0 » Sun Aug 30, 2020 6:45 pm

All of a sudden, regardless of what plugins I am running, and any other set-determined details, the second time I run Live9 after a reboot or else my total latency goes from 13 ms to 53. Ideas? What am I leaving behind on exit?

Windows 10. Not sure what other details are relevant to the sleuthing...

What did you update in your setup before this "sudden" moment?

Nothing. Not even a windows update. Though subsequently I reinstalled my 2i4 drivers to see if that made a difference (and they look different in Device Manager than they used to....)

The driver update had no impact. I have since noticed that re-plugging the usb connection to the 2i4 sometimes resets the latency to a lower level (though it also sometimes causes a blue screen.)

I now think this is a problem with either the focusrite 2i4 drivers or something to do with windows releasing memory associated with the usb port. So we're done here.

You could test with using your computer's built-in sound card to confirm or not the Focusrite theory.

Hmm. Tried that. Good idea except that it won't let me even set the Realtek stuff as an input. I also suspect that it would show some completely different (probably larger) latency unlike the differing results I'm getting via the 2i4. Waiting to see if focusrite responds. I have no experience with their support.

Just to be sure: your latency setting (in "smpls", e.g 256/512...) doesn't change when this happens?
