Scale Highlighting Trick in Live 10

Post by docbot » Thu Oct 08, 2020 8:01 pm

1. Create a an empty Midi Track and call it Scale.

2. Create a Midi Clip and call it C-Major and pencil in all notes of a C-Major scale (for example) within an Octave, copy them to all the Octaves
and drag the Notes out to 64 Bars or whatever you desire.

3. Now when ever you want to enable Scale Highlighting, first click on the desired scale while holding CMD and then select the midi clip you want to edit.

4. Complain to Ableton on all possible channels why this isn't in Live natively yet in 2020. they would just have to give you at least the option to pin a midi clip so it's always visible in the background of another to make this possible a bit more easier across all tracks, while also making it possible to simply change a scale by pinning another clip/scale.

BTW, if you make your scale clips only 1/16th long and loop it, you get a cool Step sequencer like view.
