Re: MacOS Big Sur and M1 (Apple Processor) support
Just got MacBook Air M1 16gb and 512gb
Ableton does work on here so far. it is not fast like the video apps running on rosetta like premier but it is stable.
Logic Pro is Flying on here! oh my! But it's native universal binary
I have a 2019 Mac Pro 12core as my main machine and I can say that on the m1 it feels great
I can't wait for the universal binary of Ableton
the Mac book air is going to be my new backup show computer that replaced my 2018 6core i7 Mac mini that I had as a backup
I'm still keep my Mac Pro 2016 15inch as my main show laptop but it my soon become my backup. exciting times
if your into video the MacBook Air plays footage my Mac Pro can't amazing

You can probably think of a thousand artists, manufacturers, developers, etc. that have launched and sold a successful product etc. without using those services you listed. And even the ones who owe their success to those markets had other realistic alternatives to reach their goals.Tuur wrote: ↑Wed Nov 18, 2020 7:17 am
You're right. I wasn't talking about the classic OS flavors in this context. Almost every other regulated platform works more or less the same way though. Either you give up privacy (and pay the price) or you pay directly. Amazon, Ebay, Uber, Playstation, Xbox, Spotify (as an artist), etc. It's their store.
I know you know of successful companies that don't sell their stuff on ebay or amazon. I KNOW you know artists who refuse to put their stuff on spotify etc. Gamestop exists because millions of people don't get their games from the xbox/sony marketplace. I have no idea how you tied Uber in there.
Name one successful app company that sells iphone/android apps without paying apple / google. Just one.
The app store didn't invent the internet. If it disappeared tomorrow, all those devices and all those apps would still be out there. They'd just have a different marketing scheme.Tuur wrote: ↑Wed Nov 18, 2020 7:17 am
Which is sadly pretty accurate a lot of the time. And a big reason why I love the App store.
Also, before the App store you'd have about 0% chance as a small developer to make any money at all (yes, there are exceptions). But don't idealize the past. I come from a time where you had to find a publisher. Who took a far bigger share than 30%.
If anything the App store kickstarted a whole new economy. Now you can push a button and reach 1.5 billion active devices world wide just like that... All taken care of.
But I guess there's always something to complain about.
At any rate, several developers have announce their support or lack there of... So far things don't seem to be going that smooth.

I don't have any experience with logic pro and I'm not really interested in using it so hopefully things with Ableton at least work well enough to get by at launch. At least there is no danger involved with Ableton live other than poor performance. I think I'm gonna wait a month or so before I plug my Maschine or my keyboards into it just to be safe. Things don't seem to be going well over at Native Instruments.
Re: MacOS Big Sur and M1 (Apple Processor) support
Not my point. Anyway, just as I decided I'm done discussing this, Apple cut the fee in half for most devs.
Cue more complaining from Epic & Spotify.
That M1 chip is looking better with each review by the way!

Has anyone tried running Ableton on the new machines already? I've only seen tests of photo and video editing apps running on Rosetta. None of the YouTubers seem to be testing music software.

There's a few people on Reddit reporting that Live is working fine on the new M1 chips as well.

I’ve tested one at friends and M1 macs are basically rockets. Even mac pro struggles on zooming in and out on Hasselblad sample images but M1 Air is butter smooth. I’m waiting for Ableton. At least a statement at this point every company said few words before release.

MacBook Air M1 arrived yesterday... Ableton works seamlessly... U-He Repro, Bias FX 2, Madrona Labs plugins all loaded up and work seamlessly. Recognized my Audient iD4 seamlessly.
Anyone used a Push 2 yet? I'm about to buy one, but can't find any confirmations.

I have a push 2 but I haven't plugged it up yet. I'm going to make sure it works from Ableton before I do so. I hear that it is bricking some native controllers

Re: MacOS Big Sur and M1 (Apple Processor) support
Alright - Ableton Live running flawlessly on an Apple M1 Air with Big Sur and using a Push 2. Putting it through its paces, but have had zero issues so far...
Plugins that work - U-He Repro-1/5, Madrona Labs Kaivo/Aalta, Bias FX 2
Plugins that don't work - Native Instruments (as a whole), iLok, Softube Modular (due to iLok, ugh)
Will update here if I run into anything, since there are so few accounts of new Apple silicon and Big Sur so far...
