Controlling the Loop Brace via Midi
Hello All,
This is my first post on here.
I was wondering if anyone knew of the best way to midi map a controller so that, for example, if you have a loop brace around 1/2 bar of an 8 bar sample, you can move the loop brace around the sample using a midi controller, while still maintaining the loop brace size at 1/2 a bar.
The hope being that this would allow you to do live re-imagninings of drum loops/samples.
Thanks in advance for all replies.

Re: Controlling the Loop Brace via Midi
open clip view, turn on midi learn mode (ctrl-m.)
anything that lights up you can assign a controller to. imagine how you'd do it with a mouse and mimic those movements.
sorry, at work, can't give too detailed of an answer.

Re: Controlling the Loop Brace via Midi
The only way to control the loop brace is through key commands. They are:
- nudge loop left/right: arrow left/ arrow right
- move loop by loop length: arrow up/ arrow down
- double/halve loop length: ctl/cmd + arrow up/ arrow down
- shorten/lengthen loop: ctl/cmd + arrow left/ arrow right
***One important note, however. The loop brace must be selected (highlighted) for this to work. The only way I know to highlight this is by clicking on it.
All of these are extremely fun to play with, but aren't controllable with a MIDI controller, unless you use something like Bome's MIDI translator or Max/MSP.
Not a perfect solution, but it can work. Hope this helps.

in live 8 you can assign the loop position and length to a rotary or something, under the sample tab in clip view. you'd want to map loop position to do what you mention.

Re: Controlling the Loop Brace via Midi
To Control the sample brace just use a rotery and have no quantize or a small amount to scan right through
Re: Controlling the Loop Brace via Midi
Very nice. I turned off the quantize and assigned the loop position to knob 9 of my nanoKONTROL. It works quite well.michaellpenman wrote:To Control the sample brace just use a rotery and have no quantize or a small amount to scan right through
Re: Controlling the Loop Brace via Midi
It's absolutely ridiculous that you can't map a midi controller to either the playhead or the loop bracket positions in Live.
Those loop brackets are really small and fiddly to grab with the mouse, why can't with just move them with a CC message?

Re: Controlling the Loop Brace via Midi
It seems that this M4L device is made to workaround this.

Thanks!
Hmmmmm, i'm not sure, i don't see anything in the blurb that says it let's you move the brackets with a midi knob, seems more like a tool for live performance loopers, right?
