Ableton and MPC ONE / maybe other MPCs or Standalones

Post by The_Subject » Tue Mar 02, 2021 8:09 pm

Anyone doing the combo? How are you finding it? I am having some serious issues that I don't really know where to begin working around.

I'm trying to run it in controller mode, and I'm wondering, whats the point? I can't get transport buttons to correlate (rec. need holding down so can only record one handed things, over dub can't be mapped it seems, stop and play sure can be mapped, but ableton has levels of playing and stopping which don't map, and the mpc's "play start" doesn't correlate to anything mappable.

I am using it for other reasons, and aiming to take it as the live replacement of a laptop, but this integration phase is difficult at best! Anyone having the same experience? Anyone having a better experience?

This video pretty much demonstrates the extent to which Ableton and a modern MPC can be integrated.

I have an MPC X, and I am connecting it to my Windows 10 computer with an ethernet cable and two usb to ethernet cable adapters. With Albeton Link, you can actually compose in Live, or compose on your MPC and have everything perfectly synced together. I don't normally work like that at all. I usually just use the MPC as a standalone scratchpad, and then I'll explode and export the MPC tracks. You can see how this is done in this video.........

Once that's done, I'll just move those stems in to my computer, set Live to the appropriate tempo, and drag the files in and work solely in Live. That works the best for me. I know it's the year 2021, but to me it still seems as if hardware and software really haven't fully embraced yet. Until that happens, I'll continue to work with one or the other, and not both at the same time.

Thank you so much. Think that looks really helpful, and even if not, certainly very informative in the general area I should learn more in. Appreciate it
