Hardware synth and USB-audio - anyone using that (on Windows)?

Post by Slartibart » Fri Mar 26, 2021 1:17 pm

Hello,

My Roland Jupiter-xm has multi channel audio over USB. I was hoping to use that, although I know the limitations of ASIO and Windows.

Using the native Roland ASIO driver:
- Stable and works, BUT only possible to select one ASIO audio device. I.e. the Jupiter-xm is the output device also (not my normal Steinberg C1)
- In this setup, I have not figured out how to hear the Live effects on the external instruments racks in real time? Audio is mixed with the raw Jupiter-xm sound. Only if I freeze the tracks I hear the Live effect chain on the track.

Using ASIO4ALL:
- I get the result I want, kind of, by having Jupiter-xm as audio input device, and Steinberg C1 as output, BUT:
- I cannot get latency to a reasonable level (stuck at 512 samples). Not usable
- Unstable!

At this point I have given up, and hooked up the Jupiter-xm with XLR-cables to the Steinberg C1. Of course, this way I have to record one track at a time from the synth.

Any thoughts or comments on this?!

Thanks!
