Why can't I hear my plugins effects live while recording?

Probably because they didn't even tell me WHICH details or about WHAT? Something I already complained about?

When ableton support won't help and the forums can't help but be condescending, you know it.

Try looking at your own attitude first, before blaming everyone else.

I'm sorry, in addition to being condescending, they wouldn't tell me what kind of information they wanted from me, and neither did ableton, though I asked multiple people multiple times.

Um, except:

- Provide some details about your computer system, audio interface, what version of Live you are using, what OS, etc.

More details like:

- a screen shot of the Ableton Live mixer settings on the track you are trying to record and the Master track
- or at least a description as to what all the mixer / Monitor settings are set to on the track you are trying to record and the Master track

For most of us it works perfectly, so just saying it doesn't work for you doesn't really help to diagnose the problem

- during recording?
- after recording?

In addition to the questions here, how are you monitoring the vocal? Like Da Hand said, screenshots would be awesome.

Also, does your audio interface have direct monitoring? You might be hearing the raw output from the interface, as opposed to it being routed through Ableton's audio mixer.

And all these questions from users taking their time to try and help, most being rather civil IMO and your responses are pretty crude TBH, no one is going to help you with the way you are asking, i'm certainly out of the game here as I don't think the help would actually be appreciated.

My friend is a better singer when he can hear himself and the reverb on the track, but whenever I put reverb on the vocal track so he can hear himself when we record, nothing comes through! You can't hear the effects!
What on earth is going on?

Hi, I'm a total noob, I'm not a coder, and sometimes I feel like people reply to my questions with difficult words just to flex. Also, english is not my first language, so apologies.
Anyway, here is how I managed to fix this issue:
- I was able to record vocals. While recording they sounded like there were no effects.
- When I played the recording, I was able to hear the effect. But just when I was listening afterwards, not during the recording.
Solution:
- In the session view, under the audio where you are recording, there are three "buttons" under the "monitor" part. These are also visible in arrangement view but my laptop screen is so small that I like to hide them. There is "in", "auto" and "off". Choose "Auto".
- Then, from your interface, depending of course what is possible with your interface, from my Focusrite 3rd gen, I chose "mono" as direct monitor -option. I have a button for that on focusrite, I can choose to have direct monitoring off, mono and stereo. Mono-option has one circle as symbol, stereo has two circles crossing as its symbol. I think in some Komplete audiointerfaces, there are these mono-stereo options as well.

SO "auto" for monitorin from under the audio track and then mono as direct monitoring. Hope this helps.

I also get frustrated with Ableton sometimes, feels like someone is messing with my settings during night, and all the work I use to create a nice canvas to work with is lost. I feel like there would be a market for something more userfriendly, for us who are not professionals, but would like to have a nice hobby after 50 hours of work and taking care of family. I play acoustic instruments and understand maybe more about the techniques and physics and math where classical music is based on. But the recording world and sound engineering is something different and I respect the people who know this world. But I feel like It's difficult to even find a forum to learn this side of music.
