Assigning a single midi CC to a single macro variant in multiple devices

I have an "init" macro variant on all my FX groups that I would like to trigger to reset all my macros with a single midi CC

I currently have to achieve this by mapping the button to both the "select next variant" and "recall variation" buttons because when I try to map it to the specific "play" button, I can only map to one device only, despite being able to map to multiple recall and select buttons.

Is this a bug? an oversight? what's the reason for this limitation? does anyone know of a better work around? i'd love to make use of the macros more but I cant because of this
