How to use the example from ADG file?

Post by DJ MarkyPants » Sun Dec 16, 2018 9:34 pm

As I'm going through the sound libraries and I find a drum sound I like, it plays an example of how the drum kit sounds. How do I get the midi clip associated with the example beat? Does a clip of it exist somewhere? When I select the sound ADG file, it simply adds the instrument to a track but seems to be no access to the example that was played in audition mode.

The previews are not midi but prerecorded audio files (.ogg).

Some Ableton or partner packs contain midi clips, though. You find them in the browser either through the clips category - lots and lots to scroll through, mixed with audio clips - or you go to the packs in places, unfold the pack and look for a clips folder.

thanks I see the clips are part of packs, etc. Too bad there isn't away to get the sample beat in the preview of drum rack.

...hey

record the clip internally, throw it in a track and use abletons audio->midi conversion. the route the drumrack accordingly. just a thought.

Have you ever tried this? How to record the clip internally? With Audio Hi-Jack for example?

If it's any help, I found the preview clip in Live's caches.

For the adg file called "Arizona Kit.adg", I found the decoded clip here (on macOS):

Code: Select all

~/Library/Caches/Ableton/Cache/Decoding/Arizona Kit.adg.wav
I just imported that clip into Live and everything worked just fine. :D

Any idea where the .wav file might be stored on a Windows PC?

I'm not sure why this is/was so difficult to find a solution for and do, but thank you acheronfail! 🙌🏾
