Do I have a routing problem?

Post by Fivebar » Sun Mar 05, 2023 8:49 pm

Hello,

I am new to Ableton Live and I have a problem which I hope you may be abe to help with.

As well as Ableton Live I also have a new Roland Fantom 08. The Ableton Live audio interface is set to point to the Fantom, which then feeds to a local amp and speakers.

Everything works up to a point. Simple sound generation works well but when I start to add automation - just a simple fade in, for example, it seems as if there are two versions playing simultaneously through the amp. One with the fade in and one without.

When I render the piece into a WAV the fade in works perfectly.

Is this a routing problem caused by the signal going twice through the Fantom. That is, a midi track is transmitted to the Fantom, the audio is gathered back from the Fantom, then put to the Master, which then outputs to the audio interface, which is the Fantom again.

Is this what is happening? I can think of theoretical ways of stopping this but none seem to be possible. Can anyone help?
