Hey guys,
I'm capturing some devices with Lives IR measurement device and noticed huge differences in loudness when I convolve signals through those IRs.
I´m not 100% firm with the math behind this process, but tried a few things, like changing the volume of the IRs themselves. It didn't affect the output volume.
Can someone elaborate on that?
cheers!
How to control the volume of Impulse Responses?

If you're sending the same measurement signal every time, then it's either the gain staging of the devices you're capturing, or your soundcard's preamp gain that changed between measurements.

Hey, thanks for the reply. You mean the volume change is not related to the IR but the audio chain of the application?
I built a Mid Side encoder with Utility devices in an audio effects rack.
I then sent a sweep with -5dB and received the same level back.
I put the resulting IR in Lives convolution reverb and suddenly the signal was way too loud, like 48 dB... I think even higher.
Previously I captured a room correction curve and put the IR on a guitar pedal. The signal was way too quiet. I don‘t understand the volume change.
Do you have a clue?
