Undo and automation

Post by Mr D » Sat Mar 12, 2016 7:50 am

Hi peeps,

Does anyone else have a problem with undo and automation?

My problem is that Live seems to view automation as un-doable events.

Say, for example, that i have a project which includes automation.
I do the following: delete a clip, then run the sequencer.

Now, If i try to undo the deletion of that clip, it's impossible as Live views the last events in the history to be automation, of which there might be hundreds or even thousands of events, so getting back in the history as far as that clip deletion is impossible.

So here's a doomsday scenario: the sequencer is running, and you accidently delete a track. BOOM!: that track is gone forever as when you hit stop, then undo, the undo history only sees automation events!!! :(

Anyone else run into this?

I would be really great to have an option in live for the undo history to ignore automation data. So, just important (in terms of undo) events like moving and deleting would be recorded in the undo history.

Or better still, a series of option tick boxes so that one could choose exactly which kinds of events are recorded as un-doable.

And: In Sequoia, i have an undo drop down menu of the last 15 or so events so i can choose how far back in the history i want to jump to. Why on earth isn't this available in Live, how simple would that be to implement? I mean a undo history list.

Did anyone find a solution to this?

I use syntakt to automate racks...an extremely powerful tool. But I'm living life on a knifeedge...I can never undo anything.
