Post by philipJfry » Wed Jul 12, 2023 10:34 pm

hi :)
i'm about to buy a new pc. I have two issues tho, regarding ableton.
1: can i use it with the new notebook or do i have to buy ableton again?
2: how do i keep my ableton projects?example: do i have to save them (with all the sound used) on a usb?
thank u in advance
have a nice day :)

You should be able to keep your same license and install on second machine.

if you only authorized Ableton on one machine, installing on second machine is usually painless. If you plan on retiring your old box, it is best to deauthorize on that one.

Regarding transferring files, this can be sometimes tricky. There are different methods but the most foolproof (but probably not the most efficient) way:

1. Do a Collect All and Save on all projects.
2. Freeze all tracks with VSTs/VSTi/3rd Party M4L tracks.

The most efficient way though would be to replicate your file structure and sample locations on both machines. And relicence all VST and VSTIS. I think making good use of USER library is supposed to help with this but I doubt that many are doing this.
