Hi all, I'm an ableton and push 2 "light" user. mainly live looping, but ofc always with a computer. I love the fixed length feature, and the way albeton does looping. It is soooo much better than any of the other looper options out there.
Now, I'm considering adding backing tracks when I perform with my band. obv there are a lot of products out there that can play a wav file and a click and put them on separate outputs. I assume the push 3 can as well, but I'd like to find out if it has some additional capability that would really make it great for me.
1. in session mode you can obv jump to different scenes/parts of the song by triggering a new scene. Which I imagine is great for following your singer/bandleader if they want to change the form on the fly. My question is, can these scenes be set up to playback at different tempos? I frequently change the tempos between song sections when I produce a song. ie, the verse is at 82bpm, but the chorus is at 84. etc.
2. I've done gigs with traditional linear backing tracks that also have little section "announcements" before the downbeat of the next section. ie, I'll hear "chorus" in the click output in my in-ears a bar or so before the chorus hits. With linear tracks this is easy; it's just additional audio fed to the click output. However, it would be amazing if something like this is possible in session mode? ie, I trigger a scene change two bars in advance, and the band hears "bridge" a bar before the next scene downbeat in their in-ears. Is this a pipe dream?
I'm mainly looking at push 3 standalone, because i already haul a lot of gear and would rather not add a computer and audio interface to the pile. TBH that's the main reason I've never performed with tracks in live thus far. push 3 might change the game for me though.
Thanks
Geoff
Cab Push 3 standalone do this?
Re: Cab Push 3 standalone do this?
The thing is pretty easy:
- if you can do it with P2, then you can do it with P3.
- if some stuff need to be prepared in Live before being doable from P2, then those things would need to be prepared in Live and then set to P3.
So:
1) yes, but this might need to be set up in Live first, unless you want to change tempo from the tempo knob and/or tap tempo
2)It's too late and my brain is fried but pretty sure there's possible workarounds with clips. It's not strictly related to Push anyway.

Thanks jur -
maybe I'll have to figure out how to do this with my push 2 then first; I've not explored it deep enough to know that this was possible!
but that's great news for me in any case!

Re: Cab Push 3 standalone do this?
one other thing that just occurred to me, that I assume is also possible, since it seems that my #1 is possible.
In addition to tempo changes in between sections, I have some songs that have odd meters for a short time. One in particular has a 3/8 bar inserted in between two other standard common time sections. I'm guessing I can make this part of another scene and move automatically from one scene to the next? Worst case I could always default to the old linear backing tracks I suppose.

Re: Cab Push 3 standalone do this?
Yep, no problem.
The only downside currently is that you need to first set this in Live (by using the Scenes' Tempo and Time Sig feature) and then export the set to P3S; said differently P3S doesn't allow to you to set your Scene's Tempo and time signature from the unit in Standalone mode, but if it's already programmed in the set then it will work.

great news. When I have some cycles, I'm gonna mess around with this!
