Can you "move" automation like this with Max For Live?
Trying to figure out whether it's possible to do the below with Max For Live - essentially, "moving" Track Volume automation to Utility Gain automation. So in practice it would look like:
1. Have a Live track which has Track Volume automation
2. On that track, create an instance of Utility at the end of the chain
3. Create automation on the Gain parameter of the Utility plugin which matches the Track Volume automation
4. Reset the Track Volume automation to zero

Re: Can you "move" automation like this with Max For Live?
put "this device" in front a utility, it observes the track volume and sets the utility gain. Then record the utility automation, and delete the fader automation.
The device is not perfect, the values will differ and you have possible smooth the utility automation.

I’ve been pushing for that for years now, along with screenshots. I’ll keep trying, that’s all we can promise for now.

Well, in the case of Max code, it is working good enough imo.chapelier fou wrote: ↑Sat Sep 23, 2023 9:32 am(We really need to upgrade the forum so we can at least share small files)
There's indeed security issues with sharing files, but otherwise: Tarekith's words!

Perhaps create a sticky post about how to copy and paste compressed code in a new Max device, so that people can refer to it when they paste code or ask others to do so.chapelier fou wrote: ↑Sat Sep 23, 2023 5:27 pmNot for people who have no clue how max works imo.[jur] wrote: ↑Sat Sep 23, 2023 4:39 pmWell, in the case of Max code, it is working good enough imo.chapelier fou wrote: ↑Sat Sep 23, 2023 9:32 am(We really need to upgrade the forum so we can at least share small files)

Re: Can you "move" automation like this with Max For Live?
You're right Chapelier, and Rivanni proposed a good suggestion.
My memory might be tricking me, but I'm pretty sure every time someone didn't understand what do to with those codes in a thread the solution was given back in the next comment.
My opinion is that the real topic is here is about finding a solution to safely share patches... and so we're going back in circle
I'm not saying I'm against a sticky, but maybe that would be a good occasion to rather make a list of important basics M4L info/tricks?

Re: Can you "move" automation like this with Max For Live?
Thanks so much for this! I have never ever done any patching or editing of Max For Live patches themselves though so I have no idea how to actually get this to work. I saw the link in your signature but still can't figure it out, are there any super basic youtube tutorials you can point me to?

What was I saying ??
Copy everything between pre code and code pre.
Create a new empty max audio effect by dropping it from the browser. Click its edit button and paste into the patcher. Save the patcher with a relevant name.

Re: Can you "move" automation like this with Max For Live?
OK thanks, figured it out!
It seems to work in general but there always seems to be an offset between the value of the track automation and the value the patch transcribes to the Utility - e.g. when the track volume is at 0, the Utility reads -0.15. Don't think this'll do the trick for what I'm after unfortunately, but thanks very much for posting!
