Why does audio sound different as its being recorded? metallic / robotic timbre

Im recording vocals right now and when Im recording, the audio that comes through the headphones has this metallic robotic tone to it. When i stop the recording and listen back, that metallic tone is gone.

wtf is that? it is SO distracting

Most likely you have direct monitoring for your sound card enabled somewhere, so you’re hearing the audio as it enters your sound card and again a few ms later in Live at the same time. Hard to say for sure since you didn’t give any more information.
