Recording Envelope follower's automation

Is it possible to record the automation made by the envelope follower? lets say you have it mapped to a random parameter, can i record the movement/automation happening on that parameter? It doesnt work if you arm automation and record the track that its mapped too.. Any ideas on how to make this work?
