MIDI recorded in Arrangement View greyed out (NOT THE USUAL PROBLEM!)_

Post by spride » Mon Feb 19, 2024 4:50 pm

Before I start, I know about the "Back to Arrangement" button, and it's not a factor here.

Scenario:

I create a new empty Ableton project. I immediately switch to Arrangement View without making any changes to Session View.
I create a new MIDI track and arm it for record
I drag a plugin to the MIDI track (VST3 version of Arturia's Mellotron V) and set the input to a MIDI controller
I set Monitoring to IN
I play a few notes on the controller and I can hear the sound of the plugin
I press Arrangement Record and play a few chords. I can see the MIDI notes being recorded and the clip I am recording shows solid and in the track color
As soon as I stop recording the clip is greyed out and does not play. I can see the MIDI data in the track
At this point there is no Back to Arrangement button either in the top right or in the track itself

What am I doing wrong, please?
