Basic Gain Function 0db

Post by R. » Tue Feb 20, 2024 10:57 am

Hello Folks,
Im looking for a really simple max patch but I'm not really sure where to start.

Functionality is basically the same as Utility but even more simple.

I want a gain knob that only reaches 0db and goes down to Infinity.

Could anyone break down the bits I'd be looking for?

Thank you

All you need is to multiply the signal by a number between 0. and 1.
[~*] and [live.dial] is what you’re looking for.
What’s wrong with Utility?

do you have another plugin that has a knob that takes gain to -♾️?

you could skip the M4L patching and just create a preset with a macro for that plugin, where you have one macro control that sets a min value of -♾️, and a max value of 0.00.

Utility does the job but there are functionality issues when it comes to Macro assigning etc. etc.

I'd like to make a max patch as in the end it will make the workflow a thousand times quicker.

"[~*] and [live.dial] is what you’re looking for."

-thanks for this, I'll do some homework and see what i can do :)

As long as you don’t describe these “issues”, then I’ll keep thinking there’s no need for m4l.
It quite a common “mistake” to think you “need m4l” when you could do it with native devices.
Oh and I don’t won’t to sound patronizing at all !

I guess s/he wants to scale the gain with MIDI notes or some other value that doesn't match with Utility's -inf to +35 scale.
