Same issue. Just want to let Ableton know how many of us...

Re: Live 12 won't launch
If I'd been informed in any manner that my CPU was not good enough for this I'd never have purchased this. Not only can I not use or enjoy the new software unless I drop another grand, which I don't have
But I am poor.
I am on disability.
I just spent money I can barely afford on a product I can't use with no foreknowledge from the seller.
I can literally run elden ring but can't run ableton.
I have to check if my laptop can run this. I literally set aside the time today to install and set things up only to find that the brain of my studio needs to be outright replaced due to a problem that should not have existed. This is the fault of the seller.

Re: Live 12 won't launch
I have the same issue with Live 12. Nothing happens.
I'd been eagerly anticipating the launch of this new version, but have just spent two days re-installing, re-booting, modifying Windows settings, deleting items, and even unpluggng every piece of USB-connected hardware.
To now be advised that this release isn't working because my PC's processor isn't AVX2 compliant is pretty shameful and deceptive, especially after paying £469 to upgrade to the full 'Suite' version from Live 11 Lite just four months ago.

Re: Live 12 won't launch
Hi, We should not only report what setup doesn't work but also what works:
My old Intel i9-99... with Win 10 launches Ableton Live 12 without any issues.
Obviously it meets Live 12 minimum system requirements:

Re: Live 12 won't launch
I share people's anger.
As others have said, I would not have spent money on this upgrade if it was clear that my system was rendered incompatible due to these changes.
What's worse is that there is no dialog presented saying "Sorry buddy, this CPU doesn't cut the mustard". I spent hours trying to resolve this, uninstalling and reinstalling, in the Windows event viewer, finding that log.txt was not written for Live 12...
Ableton - do better. Support all musicians and help us understand what we are paying for. Allow us download a Compatibility Tool that we can run which will report on system specs and inform us clearly if our system can run your software. Make it clear on the Order Page that the CPU needs to be Gen-5 or later. Give us a dialog if we do purchase, install, and run Live 12, saying "Your system is not supported" with a link to a knowledgebase article.
Do better.

Re: Live 12 won't launch
I need a refund for the 12 upgrade if it will not run on my Xeon processors
My 2 video editing systems have ridiculous horsepower. Live 11 suite is a sideline app in my workflow, and I don't really need Live 12 I just thought I'd keep up with it and support Ableton. I will not be upending my workflow, spending at least $24k to upgrade them, and waste a ton of time just so I can run Live 12.
There was no notification that the upgrade was going to obsolete a bunch of mainstream processors. I hope I don't have to resort to disputing the charge.

Re: Live 12 won't launch
This is most unfortunate. Live 12 has a feature I've wanted since building my system 10 years ago, my trusty Intel Core i7 2600k. Day in day out, the thing has been a work horse.
Reaching out to Ableton support to log a request, I noted this in bold text before the support input;
In order to run Live 12 on Windows, it is necessary for your machine to have a 5th generation Intel® Core™ i5 processor or AMD Ryzen processor (CPU supports AVX2 instruction set)
Hopefully with enough users down & out they can add a toggle that simply disables the features requiring that tech, whilst all other systems are go?
As many of us are in a cost of living crisis, many of us no doubt made sacrifices to buy this on launch, so it's very sad that this problem has tainted our excitement.

Re: Live 12 won't launch
Same problem here Ableton Live 12 wont start
I mean paid for the upgrade, whats the point if it wont work first time.I use Ableton Live 11 ,on a Windows 10 PC up to
date version
Cannot even get a report sent either
Maybe I should ask for a refund,if I can't then its basically wasted money that I saved for.
Edit, I haven't authorized Ableton Live 12 ,and sent a support ticket for a refund, really disappointed.I was saving hard for the upgrade too
Going back to Live 11 until this issue is figured out

Re: Live 12 won't launch
Same problem. Not even an error message. Just, nothing. 11 runs fine. Having trouble figuring out exactly what processors support AVX2, as apparently not all i5 5th gen and up will support it. Extremely disappointed with Ableton. Seems like a massive oversight, at best. At worst... well, I won't go there just yet.
First person to come up with a list of processors that will run 12 will be a hero. Sure would be nice if that person was Ableton.

Re: Live 12 won't launch
Let´s hope that they will listen and fix this problem, otherwise it will be the end of the road for many many users with ableton (including myself).
I find it crazy that all DAWs on the market work properly and the one in the center of my production system won´t. I have reason 12, wavelab pro 12, traktion, mpc 2 and cubase and they all work perfectly.
Maybe time to try bitwig?
