Re: Expensive update
I think it represents reasonable value. If there is nothing in this update that you need or want to play with, then skip it.
Re: Expensive update
I am a Suite owner and to be honest, the amount of extra stuff you get with the Suite upgrade is almost like stealing, you get so much. The value in Suite is astounding to me. I'd never use all of the extra goodies in a lifetime.
Re: Expensive update
My phone is Trac Phone - $10 a month for 50 minutes. Also excellent customer service. One of the highest utilities is cable companies if you get the movie channels or the cable networks. Cutting the cord really isn't if you are getting their internet service. Besides most stuff on TV sucks and I avoid the news.[jur] wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2024 6:08 pmI specifically didn't make a false comparison by comparing to something vital, but to something superfluous like expensive 5G+XL-whatnot phone subscriptions.
I'm leaving in what's considered a healthy country, I chose a 3€ phone subscription and it's already providing me more than I need. That's just an exemple, I'm not saying I'm doing better choices than anybody else.
Just a as forum guidelines reminder, because I'm myself on the edge here, please don't make this political. Thx
The average person likes to do everything on their phone. I'm the opposite. I don't even like tablets or laptops.
Re: Expensive update
Ordinarily I’d say the upgrade price is fair, but I feel bent over by Ableton at the moment…
Been with Ableston since v4. Upgraded to 11 suite (from suite 9) only back in August last year as my version was not compatable with newer computers… in November they offered a 20% discount for users to upgrade to suite 11 PLUS offfered these users a free upgrade to 12… I believe they may have then offerred a special discounted upgrade price for 12 but only up until the release.
Now that it is released, I’m forced to fork out another $350 Australian if I wanted to upgrade… within ~6 months of my last upgrade
So hey Ableton, how about offering a free upgrade to long term users who recently upgraded to 11… or at least offer a discount!

You should always upgrade when the offers are available.selthym wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 6:33 amOrdinarily I’d say the upgrade price is fair, but I feel bent over by Ableton at the moment…

Re: Expensive update
But I did get 10 years use with it, so it worked out fine.

Re: Expensive update
Please, not everyones' needs are the same. I actually use my phone for business and need it to not be a toy. A business partner of mine does all of his accounting on his phone even. This has always been one of the dumbest economic virtue signals, since technology traditionally stays the same price over decades. You're not bootstrapping by using a cheap phone subscription, your needs are just different.[jur] wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2024 6:08 pmI specifically didn't make a false comparison by comparing to something vital, but to something superfluous like expensive 5G+XL-whatnot phone subscriptions.

Re: Expensive update
I think this Live upgrade is the most extensive yet.
From 11 standard to 12 standard was a littler over 130 usd for myself- with the pre order discount.
Just the new midi transform tools is a major addition, then the new browser? Yeah def worth it imo, and iam as frugal as they come.
When 11 added comping and macro variations, and i think some other goodies, it was a free update.
So wasnt surprised when they announced the 12 upgrade price.

Nope, it wasn't free.Street Spirit wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2024 8:35 pm

The upgrade price and pricing scheme for Live 11 were similar to those for Live 12. Live 11 was only free when you recently bought Live 10.

Re: Expensive update
You may be right on that one. Think it was cheaper though than the 12 upgrade

Not for me. I found the previous email invoices...Street Spirit wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2024 8:35 pmYou may be right on that one. Think it was cheaper though than the 12 upgrade
- Live 9 Suite upgrade - £164
- Live 10 Suite upgrade - £183
- Live 11 Suite upgrade - £143
- Live 12 Suite upgrade - £143 (yes, same as 11)
Re: Expensive update
Also something that bothers me concerning that upgrade price : most of the deepest developments (even the latest 11 updates) seem aimed at Push users. I use Live since version 1 but never intended to buy one as I prefer "opened controllers". Same for MPE.
Comping and macros were a nice addition to 11. But instead of new mpe capable synths, I would prefer the macros to be automatable.

Re: Expensive update
I guess you mean snapshots.
They are not automatable because it would clash with macro automation. Once you know that, you can using one of the several m4l devices that do just that (although maybe not as tight as native automation ?).
