a way to automate transport "Record"
Hello, I was wondering if there is a way to automate transport "Record" control from inside of Live.
I want to be able to stop recording in a specific part of the arrangement, but I don't seem to find a workaround.
At the moment I need to send a midi note to "Keyboard Maestro" app and trigger a specific macro from there to Live, but I'd rather prefer to find a way to do this from inside Ableton.

I think, on Mac you can route a midi signal from Live`s midi out back to Live`s midi in with the IAC midi driver. I`m on WIN10 and use LoopMidi for this purpose.
Make a midiclip with a note, send it track out to the IAC midi loop and back to Live via midi remote in to the record button.

Or use ClyphX.
Re: a way to automate transport "Record"
Isn't that what the Punch In and Punch Out buttons are for or am I misunderstanding what you're doing?
If you set the Record/Loop end brace to where you want to stop recording it should automatically stop recording into your armed tracks.
*edit*
I just realised after hitting submit that if you have upgraded to Live 12 then you have the new Performance Pack - Prearranger as an option for controlling where and what is recorded in the Arrangement view now.

Re: a way to automate transport "Record"
Thank you for your reply. This is exactly what I am doing now. I am looking for a smarter way I can set up, if any. I tried Performer but it's not working for my case. Concerning Loop Braces and punch in/out, I know it appatently works, but it still keeps recording in the background.silentio246 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2024 12:01 pmI think, on Mac you can route a midi signal from Live`s midi out back to Live`s midi in with the IAC midi driver. I've been giving the new Performer devices a go in the Arrangement view and they work perfectly for setting up record regions on the Arrangement view.
What in particular wasn't working for you?

Re: a way to automate transport "Record"
Correct me if I'm wrong: in Performer (pre arrangement module) I need to create double tracks and since I need to record at least 5, it becomes cumbersome. I just need a simple command to virtually click off the record button

Then the Punch Out is what you need if you just need it to turn record off for All.
The Punch Out Switch looks like a little _/` symbol.
Check the manual it should explain better than I can.
btw Punch out doesn't work if you have loop turned on in the Arrangement View

Re: a way to automate transport "Record"
Punch Out turns off recording in appearance, but it actually continues to capture audio in the background. If you try to move the recording file after punch out (presumably expecting no recording), you'll discover that it actually recorded the entire track until you manually pressed the stop button.

Ok I understand your problem now that you've explained it well.
My guess is that M4L would be the way to go. You could quite easily create your own patch to do this or there's this one (but it costs a few dollars)
