Ability to dock VST's into the device area

it would be nice to be able to dock 3rd party plugins into the device area so we don't have to fiddle with managing pop up windows, especially when running on a single screen. Why do ableton plugins get special access the device area but not 3rd party plugins? i suppose i could create an elaborate m4l gui device / vst3 wrapper to get 70 % functionality of the plugin but i shouldn't have to do this. Also many plugin UI's these days are pretty advanced -> some even have sequencers built into them which makes the m4l workaround method not very effective.
