I have a project file that's stuck on start up whenever I try to open it, showing this tiny gray square.
Deleting the preferences.cfg file hasn't been working, same with renaming the VST folder + rescanning, and opening in Safe Mode.
The backups of this project are having the same issue.
Has anybody run into this issue before?

That way, I was able to delete more and more tracks, always resaving the file and trying to open it in normal mode. The culprit was a MASCHINE 2 vst...
Do you run any Max4Live Plugins? I thought they could be the Problem as well. Try going to your Ableton Folder -> Resources -> Max, and delete or rename the folder, see if that helps... good Luck

I had the same issue while using a NI midi controller with the updated NI software. Found out it was a mismatch between the midi controllers firmware and the NI software. Once I updated the firmware on the midi controller everything worked as normal. Could be something similar if you’re using external usb devices.
