Multitrack recording

Post by Jazz101 » Fri Apr 12, 2024 1:02 pm

Hi all,

I am getting very frustrated, all I want to do is record a second audio track, whilst listening to the first track I recorded. When I try to do it, the second track is recording the first track, I have tried the inputs and outputs in every way I can but to no avail. I am actually recording the automatic accompaniment from my keyboard and the idea is to record each channel onto separate tracks, is there something I am missing? I would be extremely grateful if someone could give me an idiots guide to doing this, lol thanks in advance,

What is the "Audio From" set to in your second audio track that you want to record into?
If you're recording from an external source through an audio interface you'll want to set it to Ext. In and the correct channel.

If your second track Audio From is set to "Main" or "Resampling" then it'll be recording whatever Ableton Live is playing.

Info on setting up your Routing and I/O can be found in the online manual here

Hi,

thanks for the reply, yes the track I'm recording (the second track) is set to from ext and the correct channel, in fact I've tried all the channels

Hi,

It's built into my Yamaha PSR SX 600 keyboard and uses a Yamaha Steinberg USB ASIO driver, thanks for your time by the way,

So my first port of call would be to set your second track to Ext In, click on the channel drop down and play something on your keyboard. This should show you which channel to choose as you can see the little meters indicating an audio signal.

My next port of call would be to check your Audio Interface's routing is set up correctly. Unfortunately I am completely not familiar with the Yamaha Steinberg USB ASIO driver. I do have a feeling that this issue lies with those settings as it seems you had set things up correctly in Ableton Live.

Sorry I can't be any more help
Good luck

Hi Panten,

thanks I was thinking along those lines, it's just so frustrating because it should be quite straight forward, I will try what you say, all the best,

maybe a screenshot would help us to see how you’ve got things set up. often a visual is helpful.
