Computer Specs.

Post by flybynight17 » Tue Apr 16, 2024 8:39 pm

I just bought Ableton Live 12, (my first attempt at Ableton) and I tried to play the demo song in the 'Drive and Glow' pack, and it's choppy and broken up, maxing out the CPU.

I have a HP laptop with Windows 11 Home, AMD 3020e processor 1.20GHz, 16 GB RAM.

Am I already screwed because the computer isn't fast enough?

Hi there,

that CPU is a very low power dual core CPU designed for fanless and very slim notebooks, not an ideal choice for music production as it's not really powerful. I think if you optimize everything on the windows site of things and use an ASIO audio interface, the CPU should be able to play this project without dropouts as it's a rather small and not very demanding project.

Best of luck!

Ben

Also, have you tried increasing the audio buffer size in preferences until it plays normally?

Not a fast CPU, but increasing the buffer size should solve the immediate issue. It will introduce a lot of latency for recording though.
