Stereo Mixing Calculator

Post by vereiser » Wed Feb 01, 2023 11:19 pm

I am building a calculator for setting up a stereo mix.
At the moment it includes a calculation for reverb and delay.

Later I will add
- EQ and compression information for each instrument
- an Ableton Live project with presets to control the parameters calculated in the tool
- an explanation or video and
- if I'm good enough, all controllable from Max (I need help here).

Go to Stereo Mixing Calculator

If you have any advice, give it to me. :-)

Version 0.50 - Compression setup

Post by vereiser » Fri Feb 24, 2023 12:39 am

I have released an update of the tool.
It now includes simple compression setup information.
Later it will include a setup list for attack and release for each instrument type.

Stereo Mixing Preset

Post by vereiser » Tue Mar 07, 2023 8:15 am

I have created a preset file "Stereo Mixing Preset" for Ableton 11.2.10 (download link below).

This preset has three main sections.
1. Composition (Arrangement)
2. Routing
3. Mixing (Mixing, FX = seperate send effects , X = Delay, Y = Room height, Z = Room depth)

For more informations look at the scheme above.

A friend of mine composed a little example for the preset. It shows how to use it.
We used standard Ableton sets for the instruments.
You can copy the calculator settings from notes in the Info track.

Version 0.60 - Gate, Plate, Compression

Post by vereiser » Mon May 01, 2023 7:56 am

New features:
1. Gate settings
2. Plate settings
3. Compression settings

Gate and compression are still a work in progress. In the end, these features will include settings for hard, medium and soft configuration.
Some presets will be optimised in the future.

Version 0.61 - Direct Delay

Post by vereiser » Mon Dec 11, 2023 4:53 pm

I have added a information for direct reflection in the instrument settings panel:
Distance of the instrument from the listener to emulate the delay of sub-bass or overtones.
This is the third dimension for detecting the instrument in the room. It represents the delay in the sound of an instrument that is received by the listener.

I have also made a correction to the layout of the instrument panel.

The next step will be to integrate images to visualise the main EQ triggers for each instrument type.
It is not a tool for me.
So give it a try.

Version 0.80 - Equalizer

Post by vereiser » Mon Mar 25, 2024 4:34 pm

With this version, I release the EQ settings for each instrument in the mix. Thanks to delamar.de (my all-time favourite source for mixing information) for most of the eq setting information. Some of my thoughts are also presented here. The scheme is not finished yet, but I think it is 80% finished.
For future features I have to think about. This is the final alpha version for me.
Have fun with it.

New domain

Post by vereiser » Thu Aug 29, 2024 5:32 pm

I have hosted a separate domain for the tool.

www.stereo-mixing.studio (english)
www.stereo-mixing.studio (deutsch)

I need to fix a bug in the language selection. So use the links above.

Update for Ableton project preset

Post by vereiser » Sun Sep 01, 2024 1:18 am

Download Stereo Mixing Preset - ALP
Download Stereo Mixing Preset - MP3

I have updated the preset file. I added delays for overtones and subbass. I also changed the EQ settings using the new EQ information in the tool.

For a better overview, all unused tracks are muted in the mixing section.

There will be a polished update in the future, I think.

Version 0.81 - Tonality

Post by vereiser » Sun Nov 10, 2024 10:42 am

I have added a display of the notes of tonality to the calculator. I will expand this simple variant. You'll be surprised. You can really play around with this topic. It's important to know that the tonality should be taken into account when making EQ settings. It has a significant influence on the sound of the song.

I will be posting a tutorial in the next few weeks - it feels like a small doctoral thesis. I'm writing so that I can read up on my experiences. It's easy to forget subtleties if it's not routine. Have fun with the new application part.
