How to load Midi clips in standalone mode?

Post by dustyatx » Fri Aug 11, 2023 1:13 pm

I'm guessing this isn't possible but figured I'd ask since I can find a clear answer in documentation.

Not sure why you can't just load a midi clip in the same way we load audio clips..

Am I missing something or does anyone have a workaround?

I wouldn't rely on M4L to do this, so let's hope Ableton does implement this soon.

Yes, it's now possible since L12.1 / Push 2.1

Exciting news if true!!

I just tried this and it still doesn't seem possible to load midi clips into the push 3 from file browser. The folder with the MIDI files is just invisible even though I can see it on the computer.

I'm on version 12.1 Live and Push 2.1

You can load midi clips.
But if you're talking about .mid files, then no, you can't do it.

Ok ok ok - still very much a noob on the whole MIDI thing overall, BUT...

Where would I look in the manual (or is it even possible) to convert .mid files to midi clips?

Luckily it's very easy:
drag your .mid file in Session or Arrangement, then drag the resulting clip back into your User Library.
Your .mid file will be saved as a .alc clip (which is a new file)
