Note change from playing two midi notes in quick succession?

Post by sorenator5000 » Mon Nov 25, 2024 9:30 am

Hi Ableton nerds!
I am a drummer using Ableton for triggering electronic sounds. Presently I am working on a song where I would like the bass drum to trigger a specific sound, but when playing two quick hits in a row I would like the second midi note to change so a different sample is played then.
Do any of you know of a way to acheive this?

Best,
Søren

That's a real tricky one!
I can't think of any solution that wouldn't require M4L. Then you could probably use several approaches:
- the different pitch would be triggered only if a double kick happens after a defined x amount of time after hit n°1.
- different pitches could be triggered depending on hit's velocity.

Are you using an electronic drum kit, or an acoustic one?

I made this a long time ago, perhaps it fits your need. But you need M4L

Thank you both! I have not checked abletondrummer.com, but will do so now.
I will try your solutions with M4L.
I am playing an acoustic set with drum triggers.

edit: doubleUG's code works perfectly for what I need. Thanks so much!
