Want to sell my mp3's on my website-directly..best method?

Post by claudek » Thu Oct 13, 2005 3:32 pm

I decided I want to try to sell my music (mp3's) directly from a website I will have made. I was wondering if anyone knew of a site or web service that I could say upload my music to and then once the track link is pre-viewed, and the user wanted to buy it, the link would take the user to that service site & go would take care of payment and dowload..I want them on my site not a 3rd party service.
Any suggestions?

If it's PayPal based, PayLoadz may be of interest to you. Works well in my experience.

Does Artist First only use Paypal or can one use a normal CC to buy?

I tried a payloadz test transaction and it fell over horribly with an asp error.
How do those prices (of their packages) seem to you, do they seem realistic or expensive?
I am in the web industry so it is intriguing - I'm writing one of these myself at the moment.

BTW : any site that uses paypal means you can use a credit card - it just uses PayPal as the merchant account so the site owner doesnt have to get one. You dont need to sign up for paypal to pay with a credit card

I do not see the need to use a "online distributor" to sell my music unless it is as big as Itunes. If one is online, just need promotion and point your browser and buy. I want a simple and strong system like Beatport .One can listen to it..ok next buy and download..I know this is the next thing in music buying..vinyl will more and more be obsolete..
One can use a credit card,etc..

hi claudek,

i just checked the artist first thing. it works also via mobilephone or paypal. after paying, fans can download via a pincode the tracks i have some problem to test it out on my site, but overall, it could be work, if it is proberly installed and setting up...but i also search for other shop systems, easy like beatport.

You also should be able to go to your local bank and set up a merchant account, get a web designer that can cheaply set up the page for you, and accept credit cards. Obviously that would be the best option, but it will cost more to set up and you will pay a fee per transaction to the Credit card company's. If you think you can sell several songs regularly (i would have to think daily) i think thats your best option.

great info..good for all new artists who do not want to depend on vinyl distribution only. Digital is the future of music dist.
Thanks

clickbank charges $1 per transaction. f8k that. if you're selling a track for 1.50, then you're gone straight away.

btw, i used to have tracks for sale on nufonix, til they went bust. (apparently)

i like the idea of having your own system on a site though, independant of anyone else.

I think having all your stuff on your own site is practical if you have built a name, sound or are established or in demand maybe.. I do not quite see the point in the digital era to put your stuff on another www only if it helps get you stuff noticed..They are just other WWW..It is not like they do anything different then your own WWW..It is not like they will get your music in certain shops or countries etc like the vinyl dist network..It is all just about good promotion of a artist , a simple way to buy dload the music or video, and good tunes.

if you feel that you are pretty ok when it comes to using web software, you can try zen cart. http://www.zen-cart.com

it's an open source shopping cart system. It comes with built in integration with paypal so you can use your paypal account and supports music downloads. It also has MD5, which means the actual location to the file is hidden as well. It's very versatile and is quite easy to master.
