How to launch clips on beat 1

Post by Lar-ZZ » Fri Dec 27, 2024 10:22 pm

I use my Akai Mini to start and stop clips. To my surprise, it will launch a clip out of sync with the music.
All of my clips are 4 measures, drums, bass, keys, pads. When I launch a clip on the second measure, I expect it to wait until measure 1 to start.
But it starts on measure 3, then the chords are out of sync with the song.

It appears that I have to push the clip button on measure 4 1/2.
If I push the button at random, is there a way to make every clip launch on beat 1.

What’s your launch quantization set to in Live? It’s the right most box in the group of boxes in the upper left of Live. Sorry, not at a computer to screenshot it for you.

Hello!
Unfortunately I myself can't figure out how to attach an image, so I can't help visually either.

However I can try to describe what a picture would show:

Option 1: Global Setting
In the Control Bar (at the top of the Live window) you will find the Global Quantize dropdown menu to the right of the metronome.

The dropdown lists various quantize selections including "none" (no quantize, or "immediate launch"). The one you choose will be applied to the current set overall.

But any individual clip can alternately be set to do something different than the Global setting dictates.

Option 2: Individual Clip Setting
Each clip also has its own launch quantization settings that can be set either to correspond to the global menu I just described or a different custom value just for that clip.

You'll find that control by opening the clip view pane and locating the LAUNCH category.

Select GLOBAL from this second menu to tell the clip to follow the GLOBAL choice listed in the Control Bar. Or, choose a different value to make this clip quantize differently than the Global setting.

Yes! Quantization Menu right after the metronome. Was defaulted to 1/4 note. I changed it to 4 Bars.
Every clip is 4 bars so that should work for anything. Problem solved.

Thanks. Now it is fun to create more clips with slight variations and launch them in various order.
