Can Ableton Do These Things?

Post by DNymr » Sun Jan 05, 2025 6:24 am

Hey guys,

Here’s a list of things I wish Ableton had. If any of these are already possible, let me know how to do them! Also, do you think these would be great features to have?

1. Add the ability to pin tracks to the top in the arrangement view so they’re always visible (like reference tracks). This way, they won’t disappear when you scroll down to other tracks in the arrangement.

2. An option for certain audio tracks, MIDI clips, or locators to follow real-time positioning instead of BPM. This means their start points would adapt to real-time (e.g., seconds) when the session BPM changes, rather than sticking to musical beat positions (which is how Ableton currently works).

3. A feature to jump to a specific time location precisely in the arrangement view (e.g., set the cursor to an exact time like 00:01:00 for 1 minute). Currently, there’s no way to go directly to a specific time location, you have to manually scroll and approximate it, which isn’t always precise since it aligns with samples rather than exact time

4. The ability to hide tracks from the arrangement view to declutter the workspace. This would allow you to temporarily hide certain tracks from the timeline view by simply clicking on them, without affecting their functionality or playback.

5. the ability to jump to a specific track by searching for it directly (e.g., with Ctrl + F). In sessions with 50-100 tracks, finding a specific track like "Violins" or "Synth" requires scrolling vertically through the arrangement view. Instead, a search function would let you quickly locate and select the track. Once found, clicking it would instantly move the cursor and view to that track.

By the way, all the features I mentioned already exist in other DAWs I’m familiar with. It would be amazing if Ableton could implement these as well, as they are real time-savers and incredibly useful. So If any of these features already exist in Ableton and I’m just not aware of them, feel free to let me know.

thank you.
