Notomizer's a free interesting looking midi-scrambling vst

The manual shows setup on another DAW, with a sort of sidechaining of midi, I won't go into details unless asked but my attempts to duplicate in Ableton fail, maybe it doesn't work in Ableton? If anyone has it going and might tell me what I'm doing wrong it would be great? thx
Notomizer on Ableton?
Re: Notomizer on Ableton?
How can we tell what you did wrong if you don't share anything about what you've done?
I guess you are struggling with setting up the two tracks necessary for MIDI plugins to work.
Check the first 4 minutes of this video on how to do so.

Thanks, if Notomizer is working for you on Ableton that's great, I am just doing something wrong!Rivanni wrote: ↑Wed Dec 25, 2024 11:54 amHow can we tell what you did wrong if you don't share anything about what you've done?

I can set up other midi generators to work with instruments on other tracks as shown in your tutorial video, but not with Notomizer, presumably because with it set up on its own midi track and its meter showing good midi signal, it isn't sending this midi signal to the track output right - the midi [no sound] VU meter moves yellow appropriately in Notomizer's UI but NOT in the track VU meter.
This is with a midi file on the Notomizer track playing; if I instead route midi keyboard into Notomizer that unchanged signal shows on the track VU meter, but again does not input to the Input Channel track, which DOES accept an identical midi signal whether midi file or keyboard In, from a third test midi send track if routed from that instead.

Designer replies:
see pic {i'm unable to post pics, but it appears the FL Studio equuivalent of what I AM doing] : if notomizer has no midi in channel and is played directly, so to speak, just set the out to channel x and the in of any other instrument also to x and it should work.
Re: Notomizer on Ableton?
The developer adds
"in FL Studio, each VST Wrapper has a settings page, where you can set the internal Midi routing from Port -- (none) to 0-255 [not a Midi Channel, but a Midi device Port!]
That port would then receive or send on any Midi Channel (Omni).
That is why we never cared to specify any things Midi, because we were used to the fact that FL Studio has this internal ... "virtual" ... Midi Ports model.
So instead of using many devices on the same Midi interface by routing things through discrete Midi CHANNELS,
you can (in FL) just use 256 Midi INTERFACES via the Port Number, and anything on that Port will potentially receive everything.
Maybe that is, whats missing, an assigned Channel Number. Thats why i recommended trying to route the signal through a Midi Filter/Midi Patchbay?"
------------------
If this makes sense to anyone enough to suggest a specific Ableton device for me to try his suggestion with, might be a last hope? later

Re: Notomizer on Ableton?
Mariana of Ableton Support solved this! I think among other routings I almost had this, but probably failed to have both tracks armed as is rerwquired One puts Notomizer on one track, a midi instrument on the other and sets the other [instrument] track's input and sub-input both to the Notomizer track.
Re: Notomizer on Ableton?
In my opinion, it was Ableton that created this "problem" (by prohibiting third-party midi effects from being placed on the same track as the instrument)... No DAW I know of has such a restriction.
