Use ableton link without active internet connection

Post by bikersw » Tue Feb 04, 2025 3:58 pm

I would like to use Ableton Link without Wi-Fi. With Wi-Fi, Ableton Link works with my iPad Pro (M2, 6th generation) and my Windows PC ASUS ROG Flow GV601VI-NL034X (Thunderbolt 4 port). Ableton Link is activated on both devices, but does not work without Wi-Fi and a Thunderbolt cable connected. What is the problem?

Do you have a network connection set up via thunderbolt? Link requires networking. Either wired or wireless.

No, I didn't. What do I have to do to be able to use Ableton Link with the cable connection and without Wifi?

This is actually a very complex thing and I don’t know if anything has changed in the last 5 years but you either need to be a configuration wiz or use software.

Personally, I’ve resorted to either using a LAN Ethernet cable with adapters (even that can be hectic), or, currently, inside a mini WiFi LAN hub that I don’t have connected to the internet, only to have specific devices share WiFi on it. I plug it in wherever I do Link stuff. It’s about the size of a bar of soap haha
