keyboard disconnected

Post by Pierre-Stanislas » Mon Feb 24, 2025 9:48 am

Hello everybody,

To help understand my question, here is my current configuration: Ableton Live 12 INTRO , MIDI control by Keyboard Arturia "KEYLAB MKII 49 " under WINDOWS 11.

My master keyboard has a bad habit of disconnecting unexpectedly. And, of course, he takes care not to tell me why... :?

When I no longer get sound in my headphone, I have to turn the keyboard off and then back on again to get it to reconnect.

Maybe i forgot to check a box in the settings tab. But Which one ???

If you could help me...

Thanks a lot;

Pierre

Check with Arturia for support articles on Windows 11, make sure you have the latest Arturia drivers installed.

Does it matter whether the track you are focused on is an Arturia instrument or not?

Is this happening while you are playing the keys and live is open, or does it happen after your computer goes to sleep?

Is the Keylab connected direct to your computer or through a hub or dock?

Has this been happening since you set up your currrent configuration or is it something that just started happening?

Do you have Windows set for automatic updates or do you update manually?

Thanks Niche for your feedback
I will answer your questions in the order you asked them :

Arturia (as well as WIN11) updates are automatic; so everything is an upgrade

Malfunctions are completely independent of the nature of the instrument in use.

This always happens when Ableton is running

The keyboard is directly connected to the PC

I haven't made any major new settings since the first configuration and as far as I can remember, this dysfunction has always been more or less regular.

Finally, as I said above, WIN 11 is in "auto-updates" mode.

Now, I'm wondering about some information I came across :
In the "Link, Tempo & Midi" tab I read:
Surface Control: No Device
Input: Keyboard MKII
Output: Keyboard MKII
I'm afraid it could be wrong...

It seems illogical to me but it's just an intuition.
Kind regards

I wish I could post an image here which would make this all much easier!

If No Device is marked, that just means that you have not specified the Keylab as a control surface. If Live cannot see the Keylab connected the fields for Input and Output will be greyed out.

Look below in the section marked Input Ports and Output Ports with four checkboxes for each entry. Normally you should see the Keylab MkII in both sections with at least the Track box selected. If it is present but the box is NOT checked, Live will not accept MIDI input from it. If it is not connected at all, there will not be an entry for it there. For example, if you try turning the power on and off a few times you should see the Keylab appear in that section when on, and absent when off.

So open up the Set you are working on and check the MIDI tab when you first power up the Keylab and then check it again if it stops working.

That won’t tell you why it stopped working, just confirming that Live has lost the connection.

One thing to try just for the hell of it is to try some different USB cables.

OK.

I don't understand everything...

Best if I send you a link to the screenshot of the MIDI window as an attachment.

there is not enough space to see everything; so I sent two screenshots: one with the "inputs" and the other the "outputs".
It seems that the keyboard is well connected if I believe the boxes checked...

I hope this helps you...to help me.

Your HTML syntax doesn't work.

If I manually enter https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipP ... gT9WhOA46o into a browser I get this error from Google:
404. That’s an error.

The requested URL was not found on this server. That’s all we know.
I wish this forum would allow direct uploads of images

Just a thought..........

I had a similar problem with an Audio interface connecting/disconnecting and it turned out to be that I had plugged the interface into a USB 3 port on my computer. Plugging it into a USB 2 port resolved the issue.

Maybe worth checking??
