Routing UAD and Ableton for Live vocals

Post by Livnluv » Wed Mar 12, 2025 8:43 pm

I want to use a vocal chain on UAD to perform live vocals while playing tracks from Ableton. What’s the best way to make this happen?

I was advised to create two channels in Ableton:
One to bring in audio from my Apollo interface (Channel 1, where I have my vocal processing)—but I have no clue how to do this.
Another to route that processed audio to Channel 3/4 back to Apollo, allowing me to send two cables to FOH.

This way, FOH would receive:
One cable for my track playback
One cable for my mic

Currently, I have the default routing in Apollo, and everything (vocals + track from Ableton) is playing through the master in Apollo, i'm not sure if this is the way to do it?

I’m a total noob, is there a better setup? I’d really appreciate any guidance because I’m so frustrated I’ve stopped making music altogether!

The best way would be to do this via the UA Console App, so the FOH would use your two Main Mix Outputs from the Apollo.
  • Track your Vocals thru Apollo Mic Input utilizing all the effects you need
  • Route your Live Main Output to one of your UA Apollo Virtual Inputs
  • Mix everything in Console
You can monitor or even cue via the Apollo headphone jacket. :)
