Max for live devices

Post by derf07 » Thu Feb 13, 2025 10:17 am

Hello.
I use a PC that runs WINDOWS 10 Home.
My question is this: apparently, you can download Max for Live devices from the maxforlive.com site.
Is there a video that shows how to install these devices in Ableton Live 11?

While there are dedicated Max for Live folders* inside your User Library, any folder inside the User Library will work. (unless the developer of a Max device tells you otherwise).
Live will find the Max devices and show them automatically in one of the three Max categories in the browser's sidebar.
Sometimes, it can take some time for the devices to appear.

User Library/Presets/MIDI Effects/Max MIDI Effect
User Library/Presets/Audio Effects/Max Audio Effect
User Library/Presets/Instruments/Max Instrument

You can also just drag the .amxd file onto the User Library in the Live browser.

hello.
I don't understand how to drag an .amxd file into Ableton's browser.
Is this possible under Windows?
I saw a video, but it's a Mac that's used.

You choose "user library" in "places", then "max audio effect", or whatever a device you're about to add is, and drag axmd there from windows explorer. I added a dedicated folder for somebody else's m4l in "places" to not mix them with my own devices
