Streaming Ableton on a Mac??? (zoom discord etc)

Post by Buranski » Tue Apr 29, 2025 11:18 pm

I am trying to setup a way for me to stream from Ableton to Zoom (and discord, etc, but lets start with zoom.)

I have Ableton set up with a eDrum kit and a mic.

I want to stream this.

Ableton is set to output via my audio interface, a motu m2.

I can hear Ableton audio on my system listening to the motu head[hone jack just fine.

Camera is in OBS set to virtual cam.

This is playing in Zoom just fine.

In Zoom I set the audio to motu and I get nothing.

I installed loopback but don't really see how to route it to zoom. I was able to route from Ableton, to the M2 (like in Ableton,) but still get no sound in zoom, I hear it through the interface (echoed slightly since it is now doubled)

I tried routing Ableton to Shure Motiv Mix and select that in zoom, same as above

I tried setting Ableton to output directly to Shure Motiv, no sound in zoom, same as above

What am I missing here?

It shouldn't be this hard.

Are you using the loopback feature of the M2?

What I am reading:

You are sending the output of Live to the M2 and can hear it on phones, etc.

You are setting the Zoom audio to the M2…well, WHAT audio…it should be the input. The M2 has six audio inputs: 1/2 are the hardware inputs, 3/4 is the loopback input and 7/8 is the loopback mixed with the hardware inputs.

It is possible to send the output of Live to the M2’s loopback channel and then route the output of the M2 to Zoom’s inputs.

MOTU video on using Loopback Instead of the DAW (Digital Performer) used in the video, you will be substituting Zoom.

First set the computer’s built in audio output to the M2 and Live’s output to the computer’s audio output NOT to the M2.

In the audio preference settings for Zoom, you may select the M2 as your “speaker” and as your “mic”, then click on Use specific audio input channels. Select 3/4 if you are using 1/2 as inputs to Live. Choose 5/6 if you are NOT using 1/2 as inputs to Live but want to mix those inputs together with Live’s outputs.

If you have any open mikes plugged into the M2, make sure you listen through headphones in order to avoid feedback.

Good luck!

P.S. Any users of the other M-series interface (M4, M6) reading this thread, the loopback channels still show up at the end of the input list. So for M4, 1/2/3/4 are the hardware inputs and 5/6 and 7/8 are loopback, for the M6, 1/2/3/4/5/6 are the hardware inputs and 7/8 and 9/10 are loopback.

OK, I didn't know I had to install the driver on the Mac to get the loopback drivers. It just says you dont need the driver so I never installed it on mac, but I did on my windows machine.

Thanks trying that now.

The MOTU driver is required for Windows, which is typical. It’s optional for Mac because it works with the Core Audio driver in Mac OS as a class compliant device. The driver is only required for the loopback channels and does give a small improvement in latency.

Hope this has helped.
